Crepes

In the Harajuku and Shibuya areas of Tokyo there are several stalls that sell fresh crepes. Each location has a window with plastic replicas of each crepe they sell. A few years ago when Alex and Kristina were visiting they wanted to get one, but were reluctant to order them since they don’t speak Japanese. What they didn’t know is that because a lot of tourists frequent the area and that the young people who work in the crepe stalls are students, English works fine. I agreed to order for them and said, “One strawberry and one chocolate.” We still laugh about it!

Tokyo Disney Sea

Alyssa, Emsley, and Chelsea have been with us in Tokyo this week. They arrived from Shanghai last week and it has been so much fun having them with us. We met them when we lived in London. David was such a good “grown-up friend” to Alex. We are sad that he couldn’t come with his girls. After going to Tokyo Disney on Friday they decided that they just had to go back to Tokyo Disney Sea on Monday. The Disney Sea Park is unique to Tokyo. I decided to go along on this adventure. I have been to Tokyo Disney, but not to Tokyo Disney Sea. It was a fun day and because of Fastpass we were able to get on the most popular rides without waiting too long.

One of the popular things for Japanese youth to do is wear Disney headbands or clip on ears in the park. We decided to participate and all got ears. We wore them all day and got some interesting looks and a few “Kawai” comments (cute).

Paper Clips

There is a store in Shibuya called Loft and the entire lower level is stationary. It is probably the most amazing stationary shop I’ve been in here. That’s where I found these:

Life is just a bowl of cherries or is it a chair of bowlies?

"Life is Just a Chair of Bowlies

I have always loved Mary Engelbreit’s “Life is Just a Chair of Bowlies” illustration. Today I decided that I could no longer tolerate the dust and crumbs that had invaded my dish cupboard.  As I unloaded everything and realized how many Japanese bowls I have acquired, I decided to photograph my own “Chair of Bowlies.” Please note that this is not all of my “bowlies.” I only photographed the Japanese ones, the bowls that I use everyday. My cupboards hold many more “bowlies.” I won’t allow myself to buy anymore bowls unless I get rid of some.  If you like bowls let me know and I will send some your way!

Saturday Shopping

Today I walked to Roppongi Hills and wandered around in some of the shops.   Bals Tokyo is a really interesting shop. It is filled unique household items. They have an many beautiful Japanese dishes.

I have been looking for a reusable water bottle I like for a long time.  I bought a plastic one at Appalachian State last year, but I don’t like the way it makes my water taste. My reusable water bottle of choice would be made out of glass, but that’s not practical.  Today, I found this stainless steel bottle. The water tastes great.

My second purchase was two cupcake boxes made by OXO.  These will be perfect for transporting my little cakes.  I wish I would have had them last night to get my cupcakes to the concert. By the way, the concert was fabulous! I noticed Japanese attendees carrying cupcakes out in plates of three, that’s all that would fit on a plate!

Thank goodness for OXO’s great packaging or I might not have realized how well my cupcakes would fit in here. Those are not real cupcakes that’s printed insert.

Modern Verses

My friend Megan has just launched Modern Verses she has taken the words of the scriptures and used them to make fabulous prints.  I ordered four of her 8 X 10 prints a few weeks ago. I am so excited that she is offering them in a 16 X 20 size now.  I like to think of this one as the theme for our family. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” I am going to order it in the 16 X 20 size.  Megan is having a giveaway on her blog so visit and enter.  She is constantly adding new prints. Go to her Etsy shop and see everything she has available now.
